PIO training
I read in the paper that the Office of Emergency Management has hired a new Public Information and Training Officer. It stated that he had been a tv reporter for the past 8 years and prior to that a chemical tech for Kodak. OK I can understand that his tv experience would make him a great candidate for a PIO, but what kind of training will he be giving and who will be receiving this training?

Certainly we are not hiring a tv reporter to train the new and current personnel that will be in charge of any man made or natural disaster that York County may have to face someday. This also makes me question the individuals who are in charge of hiring a training officer. What kind of training and experience do they have? I realize that major disasters don't happen everyday in York County but it would be reassuring to know that the people in these positions are top notch well trained individuals. I mean we are talking about some serious positions on the county payroll. Every person that lives or passes through York County deserves that.
Maybe you could do a nice long article on the new 911 center, the EMA office, and the folks that run it when they get the new one finished and online. That way the hard working tax paying citizens of the county know who's in charge in a time of need and can be assured that they will do their very best for the people of York County.
