Cash needed for ransom

| | Comments (0)

I recently had my car towed for street sweeping. I forgot that it was the 4th Monday of the month. In York, that must make me a criminal.

I went to City Hall (to get my ‘release form’ at 5:00 a.m.) thinking I was going to retrieve my car at that time. ‘Miss Attitude’ said I can get my car during the garage’s hours, which are 7:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. I go to work at 5:00a.m. And what about those people who work until 5:00p.m.? I understand parking tickets, but York is having cars towed and ‘held hostage’ until the garage is open.

When I went back home that morning, I noticed two cars parked on my street. They were ticketed, BUT NOT TOWED! The street sweeper went around them. WHY weren’t they towed?

I rushed to the garage before 4:00p.m. I was informed by Mr. Personality, that he needs $110 in cash. I was never informed that I needed cash, until then.

My car wasn’t ticketed, so I called the Traffic Dept. to pay my fine. I was informed that due to a ‘glitch’ in their computer, I should wait until I received a letter explaining that I must pay a ‘late’ fee. I should ignore the ‘late’ fee and pay the $15. I know how York operates, so a check was sent that day.

York keeps trying to resemble the big cities. Philly has a towing program, but they have 24 hour accessibility to retrieve your car. If York wants to play like the big city, then PLAY like the big city.

York makes it more and more difficult to live here. York should try focusing on the serious crimes in the city. But, maybe in York, parking on the street during ‘street sweeping night’ is a serious crime.

This program creates a lot of revenue for the city and the garage. York should be able to fund all aspects of this program, not just parts that benefit the city. The garage is readily available to tow the cars away, so they should be open 24 hours a day.

I don't want special treatment; I just want to be treated fairly. This has been a very aggravating experience, but does York City really care about its residents?
