Confederate flag's implication
Although the majority of racism has been extracted from today's society, some individuals, unfortunately, still believe in the institution of slavery. Therefore, the connotation associated with displaying a Confederate Flag involves many passionate feelings.

Leading up to the Civil War, virtually every white individual in the south was pro-slavery. Since the number of slaves that a certain individual possessed was directly related to the amount of power obtained, large plantation owners ran an "aristocracy" society in this area. In the increasingly monopolistic south, the rich were becoming richer and the poor were becoming poorer. The majority of whites that did not own at least one slave hoped someday to live the "American Dream" by obtaining a slave to increase their social status. Even women were for the institution of slavery because most of them enjoyed their new leadership roles of controlling household slaves. Furthermore, the north, which was generally for the abolishment of slavery, professed to like the race, but hated individual African Americans. Blacks were clearly recognized as society's basement.
Not only does the Confederate Flag represent slavery, but this symbol indicates the potential collapse of the union, illustrating the majority of different viewpoints of this newly formed nation. If the Confederates won the Civil War, many more deadly conflicts would have occurred. America, as we know it today, would not have fully developed, stunting this nation's growth and preventing this great prototype society from becoming the world's powerhouse.
Due to the outcome of the Civil War,this situation changed the majority of individual's views on slavery and the true meaning of this flag. Therefore, publicly promoting the Confederate Flag could cause much hatred due to the conflicting views of this time period. Have some respect and remove this incendiary symbol from the public eye.

Sir, you are mistaken! The Confederate flag was flown for Southern heritage. It was flown as a battle flag during the Civil War. As were many other flags! There were people from ALL backgrounds fighting for the North and the South. Brothers fought against brothers. My husband proudly wears the Confederate flag on a lot of his t shirts, I myself own one also! Will I burn it? Will I throw it away? Heck no! The Confederate flag did not stand for slavery. Unfortunatly there are no Civil War hereos alive to take a stand against this so why don't we all drop it? I suggest we all just put to rest the conflict of the confederate flag and why not start discussing things that are important? Such as murders and the evil things that are happening NOW! The Civl War was eons ago! Let the soldiers who fought on BOTH sides rest in peace!
The Confederate flag is a symbol of the rural Southern states who seceded, declared war against the Union and _lost_. Their flawed view of narrowly limited federal powers was soundly rejected. Their hallmark "heritage" of owning other people was crushed. The South is nothing to be proud of and its supporters should get over it.
I think the Confederate flag was used in the 1960's as a racist icon. Usually, in MY opinion, this particular flag is flown for aggrivating reasons, not for some deep seated connection to southern heritage.
An I would very much disagree with the first statement of the letter...the majority of racism has not been extracted from today's society. It is still very much alive and here.
Most people who wear or display this flag on their vechiles or t-shirts don't really get it. They most likely don't know anything about Calhoun, tariffs, and failure of the Missouri Compromise. If you want to wave a flag wave the U.S. flag or leave the country. If you support the Confederate flag you support: the rape of women, murder, and disorder. It's just that simple.
