Offended by dishonesty
The more I hear about the “Metro-York” recommendations for improving our community, the more apparent it is that this is just another in a series of attempts to suck money and services out of York County to support York City. The municipalities surrounding the city certainly have an interest in improving the quality of life in the city. But, not at the expense of giving up our quality of life.

If the city wants my money, someone needs to make an honest presentation explaining the need and offering some reasonable assurances that it won’t be wasted like most of our tax dollars are. I can’t see how it will be to my benefit to have all of the township police officers answering calls in the city if and when I need their services.
I also find it difficult to believe that suburban parents are going to voluntarily send their children to city schools. I don’t see how we can open the doors of the county schools to city residents with out costing the townships more money. The city schools appear to need help. There is probably a need for the county and/or state to offer more assistance to the city. But again, we need to know where the money will go and how it will be used, and we need to know why all the money that’s been spent on the city schools so far hasn’t seemed to help.
I’m not necessarily opposed to county tax dollars being used to help the city, but I am offended by the dishonesty. We need more open and honest discussions, not “feel-good” proposals that will do nothing to actually solve a problem.

Tony,
You are a perfect example of what keeps PA & York County from moving ahead, and why our taxes continuously rise. Regionalization means only one police chief or superintendent of schools, only one municipal gov't to support, less buildings to maintain, and bulk purchasing power among other things. It doesn't mean less protection or worse schools. Regionalization means controlled growth in commercial and residential contruction, green areas, and less strip malls. It will also keep the cost of your water/sewer & power infrastructure down (read less bills). Your old timer small minded attitude is what is driving York county to become an extension of Baltimore, with tax rates that will soon be on par with theirs! Get real!!
