Refrain from using free pet listings
I am writing in hopes that everyone advertising in the pet section of the newspaper, refrain from listing their beloved pets for FREE, if for some reason or another are unable to keep the pet. Unfotunately there are people out there that do not care about our pets as most of us do. I want everyone to be aware that those pets that you are hoping will find a nice home for, are sometimes used for other horrible reasons other than being our companions.

Many times if animals are listed as "free", they will be picked up and actually used by people whose only need for these animals is to sacrifice them to train their fighting dogs. These poor defenseless animals are thrown into these fighting dogs to help get them prepared for fighting other dogs. The animals are killed within minutes by these vicious animals that themselves are abused by sick people using them for such purposes. Next time you are unable to keep these poor animals for whatever the reason, please try to find them a nice home where they will be loved and cared for.
Don't let them become training tools for sick individuals. They use any type of small animal, especially cats, kittens, dogs, etc. If they're listed at a very small price or as "free", they very well might be gotten to use for such inhumane reasons, including being sold to labs for a few bucks in which they are again sacrificed for testing. Is that what you want to happen to you're beloved pet that you are no longer able to care for?
Please think about other options when trying to find these defenseless animals a home. We should all contact our local politicians to make these practices illegal. I feel that the newspaper should refrain from running ads for any animal for "free!" If others would contact the newspaper maybe we could save the lives of these animals we can't keep. Please think about it!! Don't take any chances!

I have heard people caution against this as well. I was sick to my stomach reading your letter about what happens to these animals. Thanks for reminding us how we can do our part to combat animal cruelty.
