Why do they hate us so much?
I have written a letter to the local Newspapers with the same title a couple of years ago. I am writing this one with such anger over the treatment of Barack Obama’s Endorsement by Senator Kennedy, Congressman Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy. This was a historic moment in the lives of Americans and anyone who loves and respects the Kennedy family. However, it came as a horrible shock when the local news in York County, PA acted like it did not happen. The television stations and newspapers did not even mention it.

It makes me wonder how some other small town newspapers and television stations handled that. What would Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King say about this ignorance? What would all Civil Rights fighters do about this hateful act? We are constantly told that race is not an issue in these political times. I would say, racism, discrimination, hate, bigotry, and apartheid is alive and well in these United States. Barack Obama earned his endorsement from the most powerful political house because of his Grace, Respectability and Love for the Human Race. What have we done to be hated so much?
The United States has continually protested other country’s human rights and they have yet to take care of their own. “Charity begins at Home”. As we approach Black History Month what can we tell our children and grandchildren about the disgrace of these media moguls? How dare they take away a wonderful endorsement for Barack Obama and or try to make light of it? How dare you? Yesterday was a blessed day for all of us. Yes, we celebrated and prayed with Barack.

Maybe the writer should look beyond local new outlets for the larger picture. Right-wing YDR journalistic bias is hardly the same as hate. More like benign neglect?
I'll begin by stating I am an almost 40-year-old white guy, college educated, with friends of all races. That said, I also understand the importance of Obama running for president. Mrs. Whisler, please realize I have never lived in a time of segregation. I do see racism, going both ways, but I would hope in the last 40 years wounds would have healed and older generations of both colors would give up the us vs. them attitude. I don't believe it is necessary for a black history month, or a white history month, or any delineation in college admissions. We all have had two generations to better ourselves and to learn to stand on our own two feet: I see no reason to give anyone a pair of crutches 40 years after desegregation. Barack Obama is a perfect example of what can be achieved, not just by a black man, but by any man in the United States of America, and for that I am thankful as well.
Who cares who supports who? I could care less if Oprah, Kennedy, or the Pope himself backs Obama. I would NEVER vote for him by who supports him or whatever reason. It is not the fact of his race, I could care less of that but he is not going to be a good President.
I don't believe that Senator Kennedy's endorsement is necessarily a plus. Senator Kennedy is on the far fringe of the liberal left. He certainly doesn't stand for the "Change" that Senator Obama is campaigning for. Also, the Kennedy's have actually split their support. Robert Kennedy's children are supporting Senator Clinton.
Two things. Jeff, if you think the YDR is full of right wing conservatives you never read the paper. Oh, but then again I keep forgetting you are so much smarter than most people. I know you like to call folks that disagree with your idiotic left wing ideas uneducated idiots. Secondly, when is the white vs, black crap going to stop? Vote for Obama just because of his skin color? That in itself is racist. And yes Mrs, Whisler, I have been discrimnated against, harrased, even threatened because I am a white man. Runs both ways and will continue untill people like you quit playing the "poor black me" card.
Senator Kennedy's endorsement along with the many other Senator's endorsements of Obama over Senator Clinton is a story in and of itself. Unfortunately, Senator Obama is not the choice of big media in this country so you will not see a story about why Senator Clinton's collegues are not choosing her for President. If I were Obama, I would welcome Senator Kennedy's endorsement, but I would not get in a car he is driving especially if you have to cross a bridge.
I admire Morgan Freeman, both for his talent and his philosopic approach to life. When asked by Mike Wallace "How can we get rid of racism? in 2005, Freemans's reply was swift and blunt: "Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man" (AARP article by Nancy Griffin-November-December 2007) Ms. Whisler's letter is rift with prejudice and bigotry in it self. Proud,African American, and seperate was not what Mr. King was all about. Did he call himself African? American???? I'd like to hear from someone who knows.
