Fond memories of Paris

| | Comments (0)

Gordon Freireich's column reminded us of a visit to Paris with some friends in the fall of 2005. As we walked one afternoon with the Champs-Elysees on our right and the Seine on our left, we came upon the statue of our beloved Marquis!

Lafayette-1.jpg Lafayette-2.jpg The etching on the statue's side includes the dedication "Erected by the School Children of the United States in grateful memory of Lafayette. Statesman, Soldier, Patriot."

The base was apparently donated by the Daughters of the American Revolution, who may be able to provide additional details and dating of the project. The statue is not in a prominent location, and situated in a grove of trees, but it is there, nonetheless.
