AP article disgusted reader
After reading the article in the York Daily Record on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, I was so disgusted I felt I should respond and so should everyone else this article impacted. Lauran Neergaard from the Associated Press has no right to print this ignorant information regarding whether the costs of chemotherapy or radiation should be a considering factor in whether or not you want to receive it.

The fact of the matter is everything is expensive, and you should not consider the cost a side effect and use it to help you determine if you want treatment. If you can get a couple of extra months to a couple of years with your loved one, then why wouldn’t you! I think if your loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, or any illness for that matter, you would want to do everything in your power to get the proper treatment.
I have a father who has incurable small cell cancer and with the right doctors treating him with his chemo and radiation, his quality of life is pretty darn good right now. This article upset him as well as many other cancer patients I’m sure. This article made him feel as if he were burdening his family which is absolutely not true at all. Obviously, you have not gone through this or you have no heart, one or the other. If you did, you would want the proper and best treatment plan out there so your family member could have the best quality of life possible, for as long as possible.
Cancer patients need to stay focused and positive on their treatment and not giving up after reading the garbage in your article.
Maybe, if our government spent more time and energy on our health care system and took better care of the people in this country, our cancer patients might be able to focus more on getting better and living a longer life. That is our goal, is it not?

Lucy, Lucy, lemme 'splain the First Amendment to you. The antidote to speech with which you disagree is more speech, as you have spoken. Newspapers are in the business of bringing you a wide range of facts, and your choice is to read them and respond, not to suppress them.
"Newspapers are in the business of bringing you a wide range of facts"
Facts are hard to find in liberal newspapers anymore. They have exploited the readers by using hysteria and sensationalism to sell papers. They also push a socialist agenda.
An example is in the original letter, "that if our government spent more time and energy on our health care system and took better care of the people in this country". This is a socialist mindset that, for once, the article did not promote. The article actually made a very good point that treatment options should be scrutinized,by the individual and not the government.
