Consolidation not the answer
The community columnist Barbara Murphy article was humorous and interesting but way off the mark. Yes, there are 72 little kingdoms and 17 fiefdoms in York County. I served in one of the fiefdoms for a number of years and now serve in one of the kingdoms. When you allow the king to believe he has new clothing while he strutts around naked, it is the people who are at fault. It took a little child to make the people recognize the king was naked.

It is organizations like the PSEA who made the king's clothes that made the people believe. It is the lack of citizens' participation in the municipalities and school districts that allow the kingdoms and fiefdoms to do what they want. Consolidation may appear to be the answer but are you willing to pay the salaries of the teachers in the highest paid districts, because they are not going to take less? Are you willing to pay the same directors the same salary as they are getting now as superintendent, they will not take less.
The real solution is the elimination of property tax, and allow the state to allocate an equal amount per student to each school district.
