U.S. nuke count

What exactly is going on with our nuclear weapons stockpile? First, last August, an American bomber is somehow armed with nuclear weapons, and flown half way across the country before the error was discovered. Now the announcement that back in 2006, we mistakenly sent four electronic fuses for nuclear weapons to Taiwan, sending the Chinese government into an apoplectic fit, and causing the Taiwan government to wonder if Christmas had come early.

What the heck is going on?? The President is running around, lobbing threats at countries he deems a nuclear menace, yet our $700 billion a year military seems to be having a hard time keeping track of America's nukes. To his credit, Defense Secretary Gates has ordered a full inventory of all US nukes, but am I the only person that thought they counted the blasted things weekly, if not daily, already?

With all the concern about nuclear proliferation, you would think that we would be beyond reproach with regard to nuclear weapons security.

I guess $700 billion (and counting) doesn't buy much these days.

You can be sure that we aren't going to be lax about
nuke security in the future.
