What's it going to take?
Isn't it true that most people look forward to the end of the work day? Those who work in the City of York can not cut the stress when they walk out the door. They are dealt another round just by trying to cross the street to get to their vehicles. An accident is waiting to happen on West Philadelphia Street during the AM or PM rush or on Tuesdays and Thursdays when Central Market is open.

You will find dozens of people standing on the sides of the street watching all the vehicles go by with no intentions of stopping. You would think that the pedestrian sign was invisible. There have been many times when the York City Police cars have not even obeyed the law. Luckily, no one has been hurt but is that what it is going to take in order for the motorist to obey the Crosswalk signs?
Since 2001, Penn DOT has distributed more than 3,400 of the fluorescent yellow-green, free-standing crosswalk signs to municipalities across the state. The signs, which are placed in the center of a roadway directly before the crosswalk, are offered to municipalities upon request.
Pennsylvania law says that when traffic signals are either not present or not operating, motorists must yield to pedestrians within a marked crosswalk, or any unmarked crosswalk, at an intersection. Violators of the law are subject to a $50 fine. York city does not enforce this law. They would have a lot more money to use for other things such as crime control. I bet the city could make $1000.00 in a matter of 15 minutes during those busy times. I have witnessed this along with many co-workers.

Try getting cars to stop for you while trying to cross Roosevelt Avenue at Phila. St. WITH the light.
Pedestrians are invisible there too. I take my life in my hands every day walking to work.
