Remember the Golden Rule
There have been many occassions over the years when I have delighted to read stories in the York Daily Record where individuals have made the choice to do the right thing. Where doing the right thing outweighs the temptation to look the other way or to be dishonest. Unfortunately, a recent incident that occurred to my mother has left me filled with disappointment.

On Wednesday, May 14th, my 75-year-old mother parked her car in the Shrewsbury Wal-Mart parking lot. After being in Wal-Mart for no more than 20 minutes, she returned to her car to find a very large gash down the passenger side door. Someone obviously misjudged either pulling in or out of the space next to her. The individual who hit her car knew that they had damaged her car quite significantly. What makes the situation even worse is that this individual did not have the decency to leave their name and number for her.
I don't care how hurried this individual was, there was no excuse for this deliberate lack of consideration for others. She checked with Wal-Mart staff to see if security cameras installed in the parking lot captured anything on video. Of course, nothing could be determined. My mother, being on a very fixed income, will have to absorb some of this expense of this repair. I try so hard to look for the good in others, to forgive, to have compassion for those less fortuante and, most of all, to always do the right thing. My mother raised me to encompass all of these traits. I am only sorry that this individual was not brought up to share these as well.
It is my hope that whoever committed this act will have the decency to step forward and take responsibility. What is that famous passage, do unto others......
