Small games of chance

I have been interviewed many times over the years about my experiences while in Viet Nam. I am proud to tell people of my service with the US army. For 39 years I have talked with veterans from all wars and told them to join a veteran club.

After 39 years of service to veteran's organizations it upsets me that our government is beating down our doors over an out dated 20 year old Small Games of Chance law. What worked 20 years ago will not work today. With the cost of everything going up more and more clubs have a hard time paying bills and giving donations to the communities they live in. We need Senator Armstrong to release House Bill 169 to be voted on now. Yes this bill may not be everything the clubs need, but it's a start in the right direction. Laws have always been made to be changed if we find them to be unfair. Our political process should work for all of us not just the handpicked few.

As a veteran it bothers me when I hear another club has been fined or shut down because of this 20 year old bill. All of our clubs are always ready and willing to help in their communities. Our clubs are always getting calls from organizations in need of funds in order for them to help in the communities. We all know how it works; you get 10 to 15 cards in the mail for donations and phone calls also. Well triple that count for our clubs. Believe me it's nonstop.

How can we not help get this bill passed? We are at war right now, our children are returning home with major PTSD problems. We need clubs like ours to help these kids get through the rough times. When I came back home from Viet Nam my fellow veterans were there for me. I thank my comrades for being there when needed. We must convince our law makers to do the right thing and help our clubs get this law passed now!
