York Water Company favors shareholders
It is, or at least was, my observation that water has become a most precious commodity, evidenced by the drought-parched communities in the South forced to truck the liquid in from other areas. Apparently, however, my perception has been effectively invalidated by the York Water Company that is now contemplating a rate increase because it did not realize a profit.

York countians conserved, or perhaps more appropriately according to the company, used less water over the late Fall and Winter months because their lawns and gardens did not need nourished. Now, as Spring wanes and Summer looms, the company foresees a water-usage spike, and in the interests of its shareholders, conveniently must raise distribution and/or usage rates. This smacks of the oil companies' philosophy that every holiday or catastrophe (even if predicted weeks in advance) necessitates a rate hike for gasoline, heating oil, natural gas, etc.
America is no longer the land of opportunity; it is, rather, a land of opportunists who care nothing about the people they serve. Punishment for conservation is laughably absurd, and no matter what reason is given, finally, for a rate hike, York Water Company reflects yet another example of the stranglehold on John Q. Public.
