Thomas column smeared Obama
Cal Thomas' column in Monday's paper was sickening. I know he has a right to say what his thinks but having the right doesn't make it right. His comments about Mr. Obama's religious beliefs were bigoted, hateful and disgusting. How DARE he tell someone they are not a Christian? Who died and left him in charge of defining other people's beliefs?

I can't see any purpose to such a column other than to criticize Obama and other people who don't believe the way Mr. Thomas does. This is America where we have the inalienable right to believe (or not believe) ANY faith. I've never been as insulted as I was when I read this vitriolic trash.
How come it's OK for Mr.Thomas to condemn Obama, but someone who calls himself a Christian sends young people to invade a country for false purposes, LIES, helps his cronies make money on the war, and has the hubris to refuse to meet with a dead soldier's mother at the end of his own driveway while he's on vacation - that man's OK to be called Christian. Mr. Thomas's column was a politically motivated smear, NOT some thoughtful piece on morality.

I sympathize with Muslims who argue that terrorists are not acting according to Islam. I sympathize because many so-called Christian churches and so-called Christians do not follow and do not know the historical and theological tenets of Christianity. Many churches have a social or political agenda, such as pro-life, pro-abortion, patriotic to country, anti-war, pro-gay marriage, against gay marriage, conservative, liberal. None of these issues/agendas represent Christianity. In fact, being president, invading a country, lying to people, etc, don't have anything to do with being a Christian. I don't know if Senator Obama is or is not a Christian. There is only one true Christianity, although many people may claim the title. In this country, we can believe what we want and call ourselves what we want, but that doesn't mean we are in fact Christian.
