Pa. schools need to catch up
When will Pa. Schools get on board with other States when it comes to educating our children? My daughter will be going to 9th grade this year at a Maryland High School. I was very impressed with how the High Schools there are geared toward actually preparing students for college. They offer such classes as engineering, computer graphic design, culinary arts and other classes for which they get credits towards college education should they decide to go.
Pa. schools are so far behind in times and it’s ridiculous. Pa. test scores are below national average and makes a person wonder why? Will Pa. schools ever catch up to the education needs of college? Maryland also has a program called parents at school where parents can log on to a computer and follow their son or daughters progress in school. This program has helped me keep up with my daughters grades and get her back on track when she started to slip with her grades. The site is updated weekly so a parent can see if they are missing assignments or getting low test scores. This allows to work closer with teachers to see how the child can best be helped and get the best education possible. As parents we should want to be involved with our children education before report card are given.

Engineering, computer graphic design and culinary arts? What do thses courses have to do with teaching our children how to read, write, speak and do mathematics? They all sound like elective courses to me!
