Obama's appeal to world
Barack Obama is completing his sojourn abroad and it looks like he may have come through without any major mishaps. The media has been scrutinizing every word and action as well as his Republican opponents with the audacity to hope he'd commit a major blunder that would be played on TV repeatedly during the throes of the campaign.
I wonder how they're going to explain the 200,000 in attendance in Germany during his speech. "They must all be delusional, he's acting like he already won the election, what do they know about our politics?", etc. Well, they know plenty.

Fifteen years ago, when our son was in high school, we had a 15 year old German boy, whose favorite past time was skateboarding, stay with us for three weeks. During his visit, we went to Gettysburg Battlefield. I was amazed by his knowledge of our Civil War. He explained to me that our country's history is studied in great detail in his country. He knew more than most of our own American students who many times could care less about our nation's history. Ever watch Jay Leno on the streets asking questions and getting stupid responses? That is our electorate pool.
So for those who say it doesn't matter what the French or English or Germans think because they don't vote in our election, perhaps those individuals should take a closer look and try to understand the appeal a man like Barack Obama has for so many informed, knowledgeable, people. We are American citizens as well as citizens of the world, we need to know our own history and how we relate internationally. We cannot go it alone on this journey.
