Elderly taxed out of homes

I go to Dallastown and it is an amazing school. They have nice technology, dedicated staff, a beautiful building, and many educational resources. But what is going on behind the scenes isn't that amazing. Of course, just about everyone of the district residents are complaining about how high taxes are, but some have more "bragging rights" than others.

No, I'm not talking about the residents without any kids in the district or the residents who want to spend their money on something else. I'm talking about the residents who are retired and are literally being taxed out of their houses. I'm talking about the residents who don't have a voice and would be laughed out of school board meetings if they said something. The residents who are working two low income jobs just to have a warm bed at night and pills to keep them alive, and are in their eighties.

My grandmother in the Dallastown District is very lucky and has a good amount of money to live on, but some others aren't so lucky. This is absolutely unacceptable; the elderly should not have to make the decision between having food or paying for that week's medications since all of their money is going to taxes.

When I was in elementary school in Dallastown, my grandmother taught me since I wasn't able to write neatly, do multiplication, or spell simple words correctly. She was appalled that I was going into the fourth grade and didn't know the basics, and she was paying all these taxes and I barely passed into the fourth grade.

The elderly worked all their lives and should enjoy their retirement, not have to rejoin the workforce just to be able to live. We live in America, the richest country, and yet so many of the elderly are being taxed out of their homes. There are many solutions out their, but whatever happens Dallastown needs to find a way so that the elderly aren't being taxed out of their homes, and fast.

I totally agree with you on this one. Retired persons, those on an extremely fixed income should not have to pay taxes. These folks have already paid their duew. Surviving on a measly social security check is an insult.
They should be able to live their lives stress free. No way! The local and federal government will not let that happen.
The retired folks are so stressed out about where their next dollar is coming from that it literally kills them. Chew on this for a while....... Makes me wonder if this is not purposely done, so the social security monies will end up going back into the government's pocket.

I totally agree with you.. Retired folks have already paid their dues to society. The idea of having them pay taxes is sickening. Their retirement should be enjoyed and stress free. It is (my belief) the local, state and federal government(s) continue putting undue stress on seniors and retired folks to "literally KILL" Think about it. How can anyone survive on the measley income from social security. The retirement age has gone from 55 to 65 and now it has gone to 68. I believe the government keeps extending the retirement age because once a person retires say at 68 how good is the quality of ones life after that? Let us not forget the continued stress; taxes, medicare, medicad, perscriptions that we all know that they cannot afford, gas, oil prices. This is enough to make me drop.
