National political conventions
The upcoming national political conventions will offer Americans a chance to hear Barack Obama and John McCain lay out their vision for the future of our country. As a voter who will follow closely both conventions, I'm interested to hear not only their positions on domestic issues, but also how America can lead the world with foreign
policies based on true leadership. Leadership that brings together nations to fight global poverty and disease. Leadership that reaffirms American values of compassion, justice and hope, and restores our moral credibility.

America's next president has a tremendous opportunity to support policies of debt cancellation for poor countries who need it to fight poverty, more effective foreign aid, and trade agreements that give all nations a level playing field in the global economy. I am a member of anti-poverty organizations Jubilee USA Network and the ONE Campaign, and my vote will be based on the candidates' positions on these critical issues.
Yes, we have many big problems in the United States, but we also have the resources, creativity and will to help billions of people around the world enjoy a life of dignity and opportunity. We have a responsibility to those who are affected by our foreign policies, and working to end poverty is the best way to demonstrate America's leadership at this important time.

I agree with your letter.
The only part I do not agree with is the idea that our country has the abundant resources to help billions of people around the world. The reality is, with our government being Nine Trillion dollars in debt and the average household experiencing historic amounts of debt, we no longer have the resources to help billions or even millions as we have done before.
We need to get our own house in order before we can play that role again.
