Special privileges
I would like to comment on the English language. My dear Mother immigrated to this country from Germany after World War II and no one made any special accommodations for her in the German language. She was expected to speak English and to make her own way in this country.

Throughout American history, people have immigrated to this country from Japan, Italy, Greece, and various other countries without the benefit of everything being interpreted in their native language for them. They simply accepted that the United States was an English speaking country and learned the language. So why now? Why are special privileges being given to people that speak the Spanish language? What about all the other people? I understand about being proud of one's origin, I am proud of my German heritage. But I am in America and English is our native tongue. When you visit other countries, you don't hear people referring to themselves as French Africans, British Puerto Ricans, or Chinese Germans. Only in America do people insist on hyphenating their nationality.
Wake up people, if you are citizen of the United States, then you are an American, regardless of your where your ancestors came from. If your not an American Citizen, and your children are born in this country, then raise them to be proud Americans. But remember, it is this country that gives you the right to display the flag of you origin in public. It is the United States Military that protects your freedom of speech, religion, and right to pursue the American Dream. Why did you come to this country, if you just want to turn it into the same kind of country that you fled from in the first place?
