Kudos to Richman

Kudos to Adam Richman! He hit the nail on the head with his editorial article 'New' Deal, but just as rotten (8/31/08). It was refreshing to read a piece by a person with the intellectual fortitude to look past Mr. Obama's charisma, rhetoric, and cheesecake smile and directly into the man's soul. What he found was the soul of a collectivist. Mr. Richman named Mr. Obama for what he truly is - a reincarnation of Franklin D. Roosevelt, a New Deal style politician, a man who is advocating greater government intervention and more regulations as a cure for America's economic woes.

The fact which Mr. Obama conveniently ignores is that government intervention into the economy has been the cause of America's economic woes. (In fairness to Mr. Obama, almost every elected official since FDR has ignored this as well.) The current states of social security, welfare, health insurance, and health care are excellent examples of the government trying to "solve" our problems. The problems with these socialist programs are well documented and are too complex to discuss here.

Adam Richman and I have heard the same thing from Barack Obama: not the promise of hope, but the same old bromides - tax the rich, national health care, more wealth redistribution. This is exactly the direction we should not be heading to. We need to move toward laissez-faire capitalism, where everyone gets to keep what he earns, and the only proper function of government is the protection of individual rights.

Mr. Richman - keep up the good work. More people need to hear and heed voices such as yours.
