Lack of performance
I feel compelled to write about the LACK OF PERFORMANCE of the State Police for the 2nd time in the 2 years I have lived here. The first was a commentary on the lack of enforcement on our highways. This time it relates to the lack of traffic control AS A RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT WHICH WAS PROBABLY DUE TO SPEED....(back to the lack of enforcement AGAIN!!) which occurred when a truck crashed on I-83 Saturday afternoon Sept. 20th.. spilling egg-whites, apparently around noon.

I had the misfortune to enter 83 Northbound, at Leader Heights Rd. at about 4:20PM on Saturday, not knowing about the accident, JUST AFTER the opportunity to get off at Queen St. passed.. What ensued was an hour+ long stop-and-go delay, just to get past Market St., which must have cost everyone THOUSANDS of gallons of gasoline,as well as the time lost, and pollution created... ALL OF WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE STATE POLICE HAD BLOCKED ENTRANCES TO 83N UNTIL THE ACCIDENT HAD BEEN CLEARED. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR THE FIRST FEW HOURS.
YOU HAVE A "ROSES AND THORNS" column,,,, THIS FIASCO SHOULD RATE A TELEPHONE-POLE SIZED THORN FOR THE STATE POLICE!!
WHAT DO THEY DO????????? THEY SURELY DON'T STOP THE SPEEDING AND RECKLESS DRIVING WHICH I OBSERVE EVERY DAY!
AGAIN, ESPECIALLY THE BIG-RIG TRUCKERS, WHO DON'T SEEM TO GIVE A DAMN ABOUT HUMAN (or animal...!) LIFE, AND PERSIST IN TAILGATING, AND INTIMIDATION OF OTHER MOTORISTS IN THEIR PATH. I ALSO SEE THAT THE GENERAL CRIME RATE IS HIDEOUS, AND THE DUI PROBLEM IS GROWING WORSE.
To add insult to injury, there was such a mess of sand and gravel in the area N. of Market Street, that my car was pelted with same when a big-rig came flying past me, just after the jam broke, and we were able to get up to highway speed.
TIME FOR ACTION!!! FIRE THE CHIEF OF THE TROOPERS AND PUT SOMEONE WITH SOME COMMON SENSE AND ABILITY IN PLACE!
