Men step up, be fathers

| | Comments (0)

I am writing in response to John Ziegler's letter that appeared in the Daily Record on Tuesday 9/2/08. Mr. Ziegler has cast all the problems of fatherhood on women. That we choose to be single mothers. We do not want the fathers of our children in their lives and in to many cases that we choose to support ourselves and our children on far less money than our children's fathers make.

Those ideas are laughable. The answer to fatherhood is men stepping up and taking on their responsibilities and be FATHERS. Support the children you profess to love and be there for the children you have created.

It is not the taxpayers responsibility to support these unlucky children. It is their PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY. I do agree fathers who do not pay child support should not be put in jail. I do not want taxpayers money spent on housing, feeding, and clothing these Deadbeat Dads. Save the jails for the real criminals. I suggest that the property of these fathers. The cars, trucks, motorcycles, houses and video games owned by these men be auctioned off and the proceeds given to their children. Why should you be rewarded when your children are doing without? I also would like laws be enacted that all income or revenue given whether from employment, lottery, gambling, or inheritance should be given over to the children they choose not to support.

Finally in closing, I would like to make clear Fathers are needed. It is well documented that children raised without fathers are at far more risk for things like drugs, gangs, alcohol, crime, teen pregnancy and the list goes on. Whether or not it is planned or not planned be a father to your child. Fathers can change this sad trend of fatherless children our nation is seeing.
