Rate increase
Once again I find myself writing to wake-up the electorate over electric rates.
On Sept. 9, Governor Rendall was testifying in front of the legislature encouraging them to vote for HB 2200 and 2201 which are suppose to help electric consumers control the electric rate increase that's forthcoming. Showing his political muscle he said that if the legislature doesn't pass these two bills he will sign legislation to re-regulate the electricity generators and protect the consumer. All of a sudden "we have a friend in Pennsylvania" - lol (that's "lot's of laughs" in internet speak). In the next breath the governor is telling the legislators that the electricity generators, without spending a penny, are going to increase their earnings 40-50% when deregulation goes into effect. Some friend.
The electricity generators offer up the increasing cost of natural resources, which is mostly coal and some natural gas, as the reason for the constant desire to increase price. I'd like to suggest that when a corporation can claim a 40-50% increase in earnings for doing nothing it's mostly greed.
Those resources belong to us, the citizens of the United States of America. Alaskan's get a royalty check every year for allowing companies to drill the oil out of their ground while Pennsylvanians get nothing for coal mining and natural gas. If the electric generators are going to insist on a price increase for their electricity then we the people of Pennsylvania need to insist that the price to use our coal or natural gas is going to increase at the same rate; effectively nullifying any price increase.
