School lunchtime woes
Well it's back to school time in Red Lion and it's great to see the new school year is starting out the same way last year ended. I have two children in the Red Lion High School and already today, on the first day back, neither of them were able to purchase a lunch.
I know, the school is going thru growing pains and construction problems but the policy of the entire school eating lunch at the same time just doesn't work. The idea sounds really good: students who need help can go to a teacher during the lunch break and seek out assistance after eating their lunch. They also can sit with their friends since eveyone eats at the same time.

Now I may not be a highly educated school adminstrator but, I am a thinker, and if my fourth grade math serves me well, if you devide the number of students, roughly 1750, by the length of the lunch break, 56 minutes, the cafeteria staff would have to serve over 31 students per minute thru the line. Is there an Olympic event for fast meal serving? That's not allowing any time for the kids to find a nice, clean spot to sit on the floor and eat.
I know my Mom always discouraged me from sitting on the floor to eat. I guess the times have changed. . . . . .
In any case, I believe a change is needed to once again create several lunch shifts so every student has the opportunity to not only purchase a lunch, but to eat it in a somewhat less hurried fashion.
I'd like to be able to ask my kids what they had for lunch and actually hear they HAD a lunch.
