Darker days ahead
It was a dark day in our history when the House on Monday voted against the joint Administration and congressional effort to stabilize the financial markets, and there will be far darker days ahead if the Congress fails to approve the proposed $700 billion package.
The confidence of credit markets around the globe has been severely shaken by investments in mortgages that were made in the U.S. at the height of the housing boom and have since gone bad. The rescue plan would allow the Treasury Department to buy those trouble assets. This would help restore the credit that consumers and small businesses need, and it would end the dangerous downward spiral of falling home prices and rising foreclosures at the center of today's crisis.

When this issue comes up again, it is imperative that every member of the House understand the dire repercussions of voting "no." This may be the last chance to save our economy from a deep recession, or worse. Those who are against this legislation should be looking long and hard at the real prospect of lost jobs, depleted savings, and shattered retirement dreams that will result if they remain adamant in their opposition. At this critical moment, we are looking to our lawmakers for true leadership. The decision is up to them whether we leave this nation on the verge of an era of economic hardship and misery, or harness the strength and resilience of our economy to carry us back to higher ground.

I’ve had it. Like the gentleman from Wisconsin yesterday said, “ I’m mad”. I’m mad because people can’t see where this country is headed. We will be a socialist nation in less than 2 years if this election goes the way polls indicate. The government will own everything and our freedoms will be gone. No first amendment, no second amendment, no Constitution. I’m not only mad I’m scared. Scared that we will elect a president and congress that will lead us down that path.
I wrote an editorial and submitted to this paper for publication. It was refused because it was too long….For God’s sake what is relevant that can be said in 200 words. Wake up and send a message to those who would stifle descent and take this country to ruin. I fought for this country, I spent twenty years of my life in the Navy, wounded and decorated in Viet Nam, I’ve earned to right to speak out.
