Women's Club supports Trust
How have the increased traffic and development in York County in the last 20 years affected you? Has it improved your quality of life or impaired it? If you want to help preserve the natural beauty and quality of life here, join with the Women's Club of Spring Grove to support the work of the Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County.
The Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the farm and natural lands of York County for future generations. All donations to the Trust are tax-deductible. No local tax money supports the Trust.
A lack of preservation in our county has produced congested streets, higher school and property taxes, large and scattered developments without infrastructure, expanding sewer capacity, larger or new school buildings to accommodate an increasing school population, and the loss of an open and rural flavor¯essentially, the character and charm of York County.
In addition to quality-of-life issues, continuing development has grave environmental impacts. For example, because the Susquehanna River is a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, the runoff from urban and suburban areas, air pollution from more and more cars, and sprawl here help to pollute the bay. The Susquehanna also provides habitat for many fish species that are endangered by development.
The Women's Club of Spring Grove consists of only 33 women who are contributing at least $200 to the Farm & Natural Lands Trust this month. We are asking the public and local businesses to match our donation to the Trust to help preserve York County's farms and natural lands. To do so, please refer to the club's web site for contact information.
