American Homecomings

Darnell Rias is 22. He lives in West York, likes to work out, plans to go to school in the fall, and about 1 1/2 years ago the M-ATV he was driving in Afghanistan was hit by an IED, injuring him the three other Marines in the vehicle.

Reporter Mike Argento and I will be following this veteran over the next year as he builds his life after war. This is just one of many stories being told across the country on the website “American Homecomings”.

The first installment of Darnell’s story will be up in June. Until then, check out the other stories of the men and women who have given a part of themselves for the freedoms you and I enjoy.

Darnell Rias of West York steadies himself on a row of weights as he does one-arm tricep extensions at L.A. Fitness in Manchester Township Friday, May 4, 2012. Rias, a Marine, was in Afghanistan for just a few months before the M-ATV he was driving was hit by an IED October 8, 2010, shattering his vertebra and leaving him with a traumatic brain injury with lingering side effects.
