We have a winner.
His name is John Derbyshire and he's a pundit with the right-wing National Review Online. You have to see what he wrote about the Virginia Tech massacre to believe it.
Here it is:
"As NRO's designated chickenhawk, let me be the one to ask: Where was the spirit of self-defense here? Setting aside the ludicrous campus ban on licensed conceals, why didn't anyone rush the guy? It's not like this was Rambo, hosing the place down with automatic weapons. He had two handguns for goodness' sake—one of them reportedly a .22.
"At the very least, count the shots and jump him reloading or changing hands. Better yet, just jump him. Handguns aren't very accurate, even at close range. I shoot mine all the time at the range, and I still can't hit squat. I doubt this guy was any better than I am. And even if hit, a .22 needs to find something important to do real damage—your chances aren't bad.
Yes, yes, I know it's easy to say these things: but didn't the heroes of Flight 93 teach us anything? As the cliche goes—and like most cliches. It's true—none of us knows what he'd do in a dire situation like that. I hope, however, that if I thought I was going to die anyway, I'd at least take a run at the guy."
You know, these were frightened college students, kids, and this wasn't a Chuck Norris flick. It was real life.
This guy is nuts.

Yes, that guy is nuts. But, the other right-wing wackos ( such as Rush, Sean, and even Simon Cowell)used this as propaganda. They said that VT deserved it becuase it's a liberal school, and they're bringing up gun control. They said things worse than Don Imus, but since the media is owned and operated by the right-wing, they won't get in trouble.
Last time I checked, one of the professors ( who happened to be a Holocaust survivor) helped his students to freedom and safety before the killer shot him. Doesn't that count?
Please, Nathan. First of all, the media is owned by the left-wing. Or can't you tell? Check the New York Times.
I doubt any of those people you mentioned said that VT deserved such a massacre - that would be stupid and heartless. My guess is that you know nothing about them. It's much more likely (and probably true) that you are simply saying what you want to say without thinking about it. After all, in the irrational world of far-left liberals, anything said against conservatives is true.
I put this dingbat's comments up there with the sign raised at the gun rally in Harrisburg last week calling for the lynching of one of our state representatives. Gee, people making these kind of angry and violent statements make great gun owners. I wanted to write a letter to the editor about this gun bill, but I'm afraid to give my full name and township for fear of people hunting me down.
Here is why Rep. Cruz's bill should not simply languish in the House:
- We pay to register our motor vehicles annually. The PA Dept. of Environmental Protection requires annual fees and registration of machines producing ionizing xrays. Cars and xrays pose potential hazards to people and require extra responsibility by their owners. Yes, it's an extra expense and a bureaucratic hassle, but it provides a necessary tracking system for reckless behavior. Certainly, guns fall into this same category.
- It will generate revenue - a minor tax of $10/gun - we pay 3x more for our cars. Let's use the money for gun safety efforts so weapons don't fall into the wrong hands. It's a small price to pay to protect children who stumble upon an unlocked gun.
- Stop making the excuse that criminals don't follow the law anyway. Maybe the problem lies in how we enforce the laws - or fail to do so. We need something to hold people accountable. I was pulled over a year ago for not having a current inspection sticker on my car. Time had passed - it was an honest mistake easily rectified. I didn't feel like a criminal. I took the necessary steps to obey the law and get the inspection. It's the repeat offenders that authorities can track and perhaps avert other unlawful behaviors.
- I continue to believe that waving the flag of Constitutional liberty around this issue is not what our forefathers had in mind. Everyone talks about rights. I have a right to feel safe. In this age of fear we have cultivated, I vote in favor of less guns because the slightest perceived threat by some "vigilant citizen" could easily result in tradegy around any corner.
- Enough about rights - let's talk about responsibilities. Gun owners have a special responsibility to ensure they are trained in safety and the proper use of firearms. We all have a responsibility to vote and make our voices heard as part of our democracy. I've been hearing lots of gun ownders voices - how about the voices for control?
On April 30th, Rep Cruz plans to add an amendment to HB760 to pilot his idea in the Philadelphia area. We need to watch the progress of this and participate in the debate.
