About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

The Onion does the Phillies
A story in the Onion includes this passage: “To put into perspective just how long the Phillies have gone without a championship, the earth has almost made one full orbit of the sun since the franchise last paraded through downtown … Continue reading

Charlie returns!
WGAL’s Ron Martin snagged an interview with former Mayor/murder defendant Charlie Robertson. Nothing really insightful, but it’s Charlie. He always seemed to have lack of self-awareness. He did say, “You never get over it,” regarding his arrest for murder in … Continue reading

Baltimore’s finest! Keeping us safe from Leatherface since 2009.
Funny story out of Baltimore. Off-duty cop encounters guy dressed up as Leatherface from “The Texas Chansaw Massacre” and pulls his gun on him. The cop’s in deep. Who’s going to keep us safe from Leatherface now? Huh? Huh?

We speak English good
A review of a new book about the language, “The Lexicographer’s Dilemma,” begins, “‘Passions run hot when the discussion turns to language,’ writes Rutgers English professor Jack Lynch in his sprightly new history of the notion of ‘proper’ English, ‘The … Continue reading

Lies about the public option
Polls consistently show that a majority of Americans support having a public option when it comes to health insurance. Consistently. So how come some elected officials and the press continue to ignore that. Beats me. But here’s a good article … Continue reading
