About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

A heroic effort
Here’s a good piece from Slate magazine, about the Saints big victory Sunday. It concludes: “Drew Brees’ first home game as the Saints’ starting quarterback came in 2006, in the Superdome’s grand reopening after Hurricane Katrina. While it’s too pat … Continue reading

Little windy out there this morning
Saw a traffic light hanging by a wire on Route 30, at Susquehanna Trail, on the way into work this morning. Nasty wind.

Geaux Saints!
Congrats to the Saints. What a great story. The city of New Orleans deserves some good news. I know winning a football game is small consolation compared to the pain and suffering that city has endured since Katrina. But it’s … Continue reading

The Orioles strike again!
Excellent column by the Balitmore Sun’s Keven Cowherd on Orioles ticket prices. It begins: “When it comes to fan relations, the Orioles sometimes have the touch of a blacksmith. “Take their two latest moves: raising the price of tickets bought … Continue reading

Activist judges
So, yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that corporations are people too. The court, ignoring decades of precedent, overturned laws that forbid corporations — and labor unions; it cuts both ways — from making unlimited financial contributions to political campaigns. … Continue reading

This has to be a joke, right?
Something called the All-American Basketball Alliance sent out a press release announcing the start-up of the league. The weird thing? The league would be only for white players. It’s either a joke or one of the dumbest ideas ever. If … Continue reading

We’re having technical difficulties.
This week’s What Have We Learned team recorded what was probably the best Pod cast in the history of Pod casts, which is what, about three weeks, but we’ve been unable to post it. Until we figure it out — … Continue reading

Jay Paterno, I take it all back
In the past, I’ve been critical of Jay Paterno, Penn State’s quarterback coach, for some of his play calling and coaching decisions. But when it comes to important stuff, Jay is right on. In response to the recent signing of … Continue reading

Is Mr. Ed a suspect?
State police are investigating the theft of more than 200 bales of hay from a farm in Warrington Township. The suspect is described as a white male, standing about 12 hands tall, and is suspected of working with an accomplice … Continue reading

Who would Jesus shoot?
A gun maker is under fire — see what I did there — for putting Biblical references on rifles manufactured for the military. The U.S. Marines, through a spokesperson, said it was “concerned how this may be perceived.” Um, I … Continue reading
