About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

Rock on, Canada!
The International Olympic Committee is investigating the Canadian women’s hockey team for its celebration on the ice after winning the gold medal by defeating the United States, 2-0. Here’s the Washington Post story about the controversy. The story begins: “The … Continue reading

Bad idea of the decade!
The California State Assembly passed a resolution calling for the first week in March to be a “Cuss Free Week.” What are they (bleeping) kidding? Swearing is a relief valve. A few good curse words mumbled as you’re stuck in … Continue reading

Hey, it snowed
Big freakin’ deal. A couple of inches of snow. A little wind. This is nothing. I did learn something today. Your mechanic can’t inspect your car if there is snow on the ground. Who knew?

The health care reform summit
Of course, the summit will change nothing. All of the news coverage focused on who won and who lost and the exchange between President Obama and John McCain. What I got from it is that it proved, definitely, that Republicans … Continue reading

The Odd Couple
Artist Jeff Koons and bluegrass legend Del McCoury will receive the Governor’s Award for the Arts at a ceremony April 8. Now, there’s two people I never expected to see in the same place at the same time. Huge congrats … Continue reading

A little game
Guess which part of this Associated Press story is my favorite part: “TACOMA, Wash.–Pierce County prosecutors filed a charge of unlawful public exposure against a 19-year-old barista accused of wearing only a thong bottom and X-shaped pasties on her nipples. … Continue reading

Snow madness
This Associated Press story really needs no explanation: “PITTSBURGH–An argument over a parking space prompted a shootout between a Pittsburgh man and police. Investigators said 61-year-old Errol Parker Sr. was in custody after firing shots at two officers responding to … Continue reading

They’re kidding, right? Part 2.
This is pretty weird. The AP reports, “Nearly half of the Arizona Legislature wants to force President Barack Obama to show his birth certificate to state officials if he runs for re-election.” The funny part of the story is that … Continue reading

They’re kidding, right?
So today, we ran this Associated Press story: “COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.–Puppet cleavage has been ruled out for advertising posters in Colorado Springs bus shelters. Lamar Advertising rejected posters for a touring production of the Broadway show ‘Avenue Q’ because they … Continue reading

End of an era
The Eagles released Brian Westbrook. I remember when the Birds drafted Westbrook out of Villanova and like a lot of Eagles fans I thought, What? A small guy from a small school. But he played like a giant and had … Continue reading
