About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

Is this some kind of cruel joke?
Snow? Are you kidding me? We’ve had our fill and now the weather people are saying we can expect anything from a wet mix or rain and snow to 6 to 12 inches of the stuff. I blame that stupid … Continue reading

We missed out
York missed out on hosting The National Folk Festival because of the state budget impasse. I won’t get into the machinations of it. You can read about it here. It’s a shame. York would have been a great place for … Continue reading

Curling
It appears to be over for the U.S. curling teams. After winning a couple of games, both the men and women struggled and dropped another game, probably removing them from medal the medal round. The teams to watch are the … Continue reading

A bass player? Really?
By now, you’ve probably heard that Joe Stack, the crazy guy who flew a plane into the IRS building in Ausrin, was a musician. He played bass in the Austin-based Billy Eli Band. The Austin Statesman-American interviewed Billy Eli, who … Continue reading

We don’t need no stinkin’ apology
The lead story on all of the morning news shows this morning was about a golfer who bedded a bunch of women and, according to the talking heads, needs to apologize to the general public about it. Really? Today, Tiger … Continue reading

Sounds like a job for federal stimulus money
The York County Commissioners are looking at fixing up the government center — the old Bon-Ton building at Market and Beaver streets, one of York’s architectural jewels. The county can get some federal stimulus money to offset the cost. It … Continue reading
