About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

The world, it almost goes without saying, is a strange place. In Austria, kids are warned if they aren’t good, they get a visit from this guy, Santa’s evil twin. There are other weird traditions, including something I can’t describe … Continue reading

RIP: Don Van Vliet
You might know him better as Captain Beefheart, a strange man who made strange music. He was just shy of 70 and did some weird stuff. Could be called queasy listening music, in a good way. We should have a … Continue reading

Stupid Eagles!
So, the Giants score to make it 31-10. About eight minutes to go. Games over, right? At least I thought so. I turned the game off and went to make dinner. Later, I see the crawl during the late game. … Continue reading
Story of the year, make that decade, no, century, all time
Tom and I discuss the greatest story, ever. Sure, it’s a tragic tale, but well, you’ll see. That and jokes about Jesus going missing in Red Lion and Kim Jong-il’s taste in music.
