About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

Good luck, you crazy kids!
So some woman married into the world’s richest welfare family Friday morning. Good luck with that. I give it two years.

A personal note
To the woman driving the red Honda in front of me at lunchtime. Look, lady, I don’t mind you talking on the phone as you drive. But when you’re doing between 20 and 25 mph in a 35 mph zone, … Continue reading

Is it just me or…
Does everybody wonder what the hell “tornadic activity” is? It’s a tornado. That’s as technical as we need. Weather people and others, trying to sound self-important, gussy it up by calling a tornado “tornadic activity.” “Tornado” pretty much covers it. … Continue reading

An alternate theory…
A co-worker has posited that the terrible weather is caused by a God angered by the whole business over President Obama’s birth certificate. Hey, it has to be something, right?

Climate change is a myth…
And if you believe that, all of those storms and tornadoes and Apocalyptic weather we’ve witnessed the past few days is a figment of your imagination. Climatologists have not chimed in yet, but the recent spate of terrible, violent weather, … Continue reading

The birth certificate…
In this edition of What Have We Learned, Tom and I try to come up with a joke about Barack Obama trying to placate Donald Trump by releasing his birth certificate. We don’t really come up with anything we can … Continue reading

Unemployed super heroes!
This week, Tom and I discuss one of the weirdest stories we’ve encountered in a long time — a state-funded employment service in Florida boosting the self-esteem of the unemployed by handing out red super-hero capes. You can’t make up … Continue reading

Tom goes all Johnny Utah on us
In this week’s edition of What Have We Learned, Tom finally gets to make a reference to the movie “Point Break.” He’s been trying to wedge it in ever since he was pup and we’re glad he finally got the … Continue reading

A country music joke and while we’re at it, Happy Birthday, Merle
The day we recorded this was Merle Haggard’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Merle. “Mama Tried: is still one of the great country songs of all time. OK, on to the part where we make jokes about billboards, Glenn Beck, a guy … Continue reading
