About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

This week in perversions
Tom invents — we hope — a new perversion in this week’s edition of What Have We Learned. At least we hope he invented it. We’re too afraid to Google it. That and jokes about trucks in the creek, Arnold, … Continue reading

Arnold, Newt, John Kerry and drunk dialing.
In this week’s edition of What Have We Learned, we talk about all sorts of nonsense. And we have a special guest appearance by our colleague Ted Czech, who provides the voice of Arnold and Jerry.

The problem with Tiger.
Listening to the radio folks discuss Tiger Woods’ woes — he can’t seem to win anything anymore — I’ve developed a theory. Bear with me. The only reason guys do anything that can be perceived as accomplishment is to get … Continue reading

Satire is on its last legs
A quick preview of Sunday’s column: I make fun of Gov. Tom Corbett and his ties to the drilling industry. As part of the column, I thought it would make an interesting satirical point to tie school funding to drilling … Continue reading

Two thumbs up for Roger Ebert
Roger Ebert has a post today that pretty much sums it all up. Addressing the income inequity in this country, he writes: “Day after day I read stories that make me angry. Wanton consumption is glorified. Corruption is rewarded. Ordinary … Continue reading

Cornell Dupree: RIP, brother.

The fake torture debate
Good piece in Slate today about the bogus torture debate. Torture apologists have raised the issue and hold the killing of bin Laden as evidence that torture works, even if the facts do not seem to support it. By the … Continue reading
