About this blog
Mike Argento, a York native and graduate of York Suburban Area High School and Penn State, first came to the York Daily Record in 1983. He even had gray hair back then. After stints covering everything from cops to city hall to state government to the environment, he began writing a column for the paper, three times a week, in 1989. His column can be about anything and so is his blog, which encompasses life in York County and beyond. And, for the record, as he told his wife the other night, he wishes people would stop asking him, 'What's wrong with you?' He really doesn't know.

We get a little immature
Which is pretty much business as usual here at What Have We Learned. This week, Tom and I discuss protesters, Newt and Wii. Sort of. First off, protester: Time magazine named “The Protester” as the Person of the Year. What … Continue reading

A non-Penn State edition of What Have We Learned. Sort of.
Tom and I try to refrain from talking about the whole Penn State thing. Not much comedy there. But Tom manages. That and jokes about Rick Perry and vaccines.

Don’t feel sorry for McQueary.
OK, a bit of a rant this morning… Mike McQueary’s father told USA Today: “He’s a good kid and a tough kid. He did what he was supposed to do, and all of this has been very hard on him. … Continue reading

Terra Nova: What?
Saw a commercial for this show, a sci-fi deal in which humanity, to save itself from ecological disaster, goes back in time to live among the dinosaurs. I don’t think they thought this out very well. For one thing, living … Continue reading

Flooding and Penn State’s offense
Tom and I discuss a lot of things — flooding, Penn State’s offense, why it’s a bad idea to bathe in a tub filled with eels. Listen to it here.

A preview of an uncoming York Fair column…
Every year, I check out the weird vegetables at the York Fair because, well, they’re weird and they’re vegetables. Yes, I know, at this point, I will pause to allow you to make your own horribly insensitive, politically incorrect wisecrack … Continue reading

Stay tuned for important York Fair news
We have a winner. Every year, we check out the weird vegetables at the fair and every year, we’re pretty amazed at the mutation that our soil can cause. But this year, this year, I’m kind of speechless. Stay tuned … Continue reading

We made the Weather Channel. This is a big deal for a lot of people, well, for my wife, who loves the Weather Channel. Anyway, the Weather Channel showed video of Mount Rose Avenue near the cemetery. The road was … Continue reading
