MMA in PA ... with a heavy dose of patience

Just had a conversation with Greg Sirb, executive director of the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission. The word is the rules and regulations MIGHT be approved by mid-summer, Sirb said.

That is if no politicians or other lawyer-types have any major problems with the rules and regs, he said.

"This isn't everybody's cup of tea," Sirb said. "If somebody does (have serious questions about the rules and regs) it delays the process, no question."

So right now, the rules and regs are crawling their way through the regulatory process. And that's OK with Sirb, because he wants to get it right the first time, he said.

"The regulatory process in Pennsylvania is not an easy one to go through," he said. "We're really not going tohurry this ... Be patient, i want a nice, tight regulatory packgae ... We want to make sure we're doing the right thing."

One thing to be happy about - except for Sirb's overflowing email boxis that fighters and promoters have not let up in contacting the state, demanding legalization of the sport.

"There's no question that they're chomping at the bit to have events in Pennsylvania," he said.
