George McGinnis seminar

| | Comments (0)

At the start of my shift today, I went to see George McGinnis' BJJ seminar at Elicker Kenpo Karate Academy, located at the West Manchester Mall.

George, who owns York Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Red Lion, said it was the first seminar he had done by himself, but it sure didn't seem like it. George was a pro all the way -- his instructions were clear and concise and he kept the mood light, cracking jokes all the while.

I got there about half-way through the seminar, so I missed the gi jiu-jitsu and judo, but was able to see some of the muay Thai instruction and some no-gi grappling.

At the end, George sat down on a mat and invited anyone who wanted to roll with him. He had a few takers, some from his school and some from Elicker's. Pretty much everybody tapped out to George, also known as "Phoenix." His brother Brett "Night Crawler" Myers, who has some crazy fast and long legs, gave George a good roll.

Elicker's owner, Donna Elicker, has a great studio there and said she hopes to have more cross-promotional events with George in the future.

Stay tuned, I'll have some photos up in the next few days.
