Looks there several last-minute chnages to the Ultimate Warrior Challenge: Man 'O' War event going on tonight in Virginia.
Here's an email from Brotman Winter Fried Communications, a company that's doing PR for the event: "John Doyle has replaced Phil Davis and will fight Cody Donovan, while
Brendan Schaub, Dave Brytus' opponent, broke his hand in training so
unfortunately that fight has been cancelled... "
And then tehre's a post by Luke Thomas, bloodyelbow.com I came across yesterday:
Bloody Elbow can exclusively confirm that Saturday night's UWC main event between former WEC bantamweight champion and Mike Easton may be off.
According to UWC officials, Beebe informed his trainers and management yesterday, February 18th, that he was nursing a knee injury which was preventing him from training and that he'd likely not make the 135lbs requirement for tomorrow's fight. Trainer Marc Fiore and manager Monte Cox asked Easton's camp if they'd be willing to allow Beebe to fight without making the contractual weight, say officials. UWC officials say it was decided Beebe would only be spotted an additional one pound given the length of time the fighters were given to prepare for their contest.
UWC officials say Beebe has not answered text messages, phone calls or had any communication directly with any UWC officials. UWC officials also say Beebe missed his flight today that was to bring him from Illinois to Washington, D.C. That potentially compounds Beebe's problems as officials indicate Beebe is contractually obligated to have an injury preventing him from competing be evaluated by a UWC-appointed doctor from Georgetown University. Beebe is ostensibly allowed to miss the fight, but must be medically evaluated by a doctor of UWC's choosing, say management.
A replacement from Matt Hughes' H.I.T. Squad will replace Beebe if the former champion does not make the trip to Washington, D.C. (UWC officials say Beebe has until the weigh-ins begin tomorrow at 4pm EST before the UWC will make the replacement official). H.I.T. Squad bantamweight Justin Robbins has volunteered to replace Beebe in the event he is neither able nor present to fight Mike Easton.
Disclosure: I am an employee of the UWC, but solely as a color commentator. I am in no way, shape or form involved in anyway in fighter relations. All of the information in this post originates from officials at the UWC.
