Hockey GM: player used "ultimate fighting"

| | Comments (0)

I don't watch hockey, but a co-worker of mine was raving about this one recent fight between Nashville's Jordin Tootoo and the Sharks' Brad Staubitz.

Apparently Staubitz was using elbows after he clinched with Tootoo, which upset Nashville's general manager. Boo-hoo. Who knew there were rules in a hockey fight? Actually, I'd like to see hockey fights incorporate even more techniques, like knees from the clinch. Next thing you know, NHL stars will take the off-seson in Thailand to train some muay Thai. Hey, if we can have former NFL players trying their hand at MMA, why not hockey players?

Excerpts from hockeygodonline.com: "GM David Poile shockingly reportedly called the league office after this fight because he felt that Staubitz used tools learned by ultimate fighting and he felt that was improper. Doug Wilson, Sharks' GM, was irate that Poile would call the league and not himself to discuss the incident further between them first."

Remember this one? It's like a hockey fight without the ice.
