Pennsylvania fighter Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman, who is sponsored by Hanover-based Tap or Sleep fightwear, is headlining the May 16 Iron Will Fighting event at the War Memorial in Johnstown. Here's a write-up Iron Will did on him:

Johnstown, PA - Iron Will Fighting Championship is proud to announce one of their headline fighters, Charlie Brenneman. He will be fighting at the premiere MMA fight at the Cambria County War Memorial on May 16.

Charlie was born and raised in the small town of Hollidaysburg, PA. He is the product of a great family to whom he credits all of his successes. They have continually supported Charlie through the dreams that became a reality and the dream that remained just that. Charlie believes adversity is a blessing in defeat and defeat teaches you much more than victory.

Charlie Brenneman started wrestling when he was eight years old and since has taken him all over the country. In college, Charlie wrestled Division I at Lock Haven University, where he capped of his career in 2004 with a Top 12 finish at Nationals. After college, he taught Spanish at his old high school and he began to feel that something in his life was missing. He began to train in MMA and in November 2006 he had his first amateur fight.

In September 2005, Charlie received a letter in the mail asking him to send in an audition tape for a new show on Spike TV called Pros vs. Joes. Before he knew it, Charlie was LA bound with an opportunity to face off against Hershel Walker, Kevin Greene, Bill Goldberg, Clyde Dexter, John Rocker, Dominique Wilkins and many others. Charlie dominated the competition to the last show along with his brother Ben.

Charlie currently resides in East Stroudsburg and is 6-1, 170 pounds. He earns between $2,000 - $6,000 per fight and in November 2007 he received the biggest paycheck in his life. He received $14,000 by winning the Ring of Combat. "Charlie always has a burning desire to compete," said Charlie's brother Ben who also competes. "I'm probably one of his biggest critics, but he's probably the best athletes I've ever see compete. When he wants to do something, he doesn't just talk about it, he makes it happen. He's a big dreamer, but he is willing to take risks for a chance at big rewards. I've always respected and admired that about him."
