Dear students, family and friends:
Brett Myers: Brett recently took on M.A.C.E academy fighter (Mike Blackwell) at CPWC II and earned the first round win via arm bar @ 1:45.00 of the first round. The fight started with Blackwell throwing a kick to the calf, Brett would soon after answer with a right cross that put Blackwell on his back. Brett closed the distance, passed the open guard and went to work. Near the end of the first round, Blackwell mistakingly stood up in Brett's closed guard which sealed the deal...

I was contacted a couple of days later by CPWC promoter (Mark Jovich) and was offered a title fight for Brett at 155lb. Unfortunately we had to decline that fight due to a conflict of interest due to our association with Academy of Combative Arts, which is where current 155lb title holder (Jimmy Chappel) is now stationed. Fortunately, current 170lb. title holder (Justin Scott) has announced his intentions to vacate the 170lb. amateur title to begin his pro career which naturally leaves the 170lb. title up for grabs. We pitched that Brett fight for the title in the near future due to all three of his fights ending in the first round with clear and present dominance. Jovich agreed and has scheduled Myers to fight for the 170lb. title at the Lancaster MMA event that is scheduled for late October. Brett's opponent (Justin Krebs) who is listed at 4 - 5, recently lost to title holder (Justin Scott) in the first round due to a rear naked choke. The Lancaster venue is said to hold 7,000 people. There are 6 pro fights scheduled and 15+ undefeated fighters will also accompany the best card PA has yet to see. Though his opponent has has a fair amount of fights, I am certain that Brett will hold the title...
Red Rose Rumble: This past weekend, our BJJ comp team appeared at the Lancaster Family Martial Arts Center's second annual 'Red Rose Rumble'. The teens division was packed with YMMAA students and was awesome to watch. I / we received many congratulations on how the teens looked and other schools were thrilled at our youth's involvement. Though not everyone placed in the teen division, we are undoubtedly proud of all of you for giving it a go!...
Teen Division: 1st place (Jorden Messersmith), 2nd place (Sam Kubala), 3rd place (Brandon Bull).
Men's Heavy Weight (white belt division): Tony LaManna - 2nd place
Men's Light Weight (blue belt division): Wayne Schaffer - 2nd place
Men's Light Heavy (blue belt division): Tom Fleming - 3rd place
McGinnis to attend the Keystone Games: Though I haven't had the chance to train Judo like I want and or should, I still made it a point to compete at the annual event to support the venue since it is slowly deteriorating into extinction. This year the event took place at the Toyota Center which was quite nice and extremely spacious. There were a fair amount of people at the event. Surprisingly, there were a handful of other BJJ guys that also took the canvas that day. They decided to do the Master Divisions first (In hopes to get us "old farts" off the mats and out of the way, ha ha) so I ended up being amongst the first to go yesterday. I competed against fellow brown belt (Scott Miller) of the Harrisburg Judo Kai. For whatever reason, we got paired up as a two-man division that would go best of 3 for the gold. Match one was slow and un-nerving. We both attempted both defense and offense but for whatever reason I was called for stalling. Apparently defending against a throw for more than a fraction of a second is a bad thing?... Anyway. The match went without a decent toss from either of us. I ran the ground game the best I can, but with my opponent being a bit bigger and stronger than me, he was able to isolate a good bit of my BJJ. The match would be awarded to him by defualt due to my penatly (Grrrrrrrrrrr). Match two I stepped things up a bit and went for more options. The second match ended with my infamous inside trip that landed the instant Ippon (win). Match three against Scott went pretty much the same. I was advised to set up my inside trip with a 'snap down' (the pulling of my opponent's Gi) which worked like a charm and would land me the Gold for the day. I definitely think its safe to say that though I finished well yesterday, I still need a lot of work and I intend to address that as early as this coming week...
Sincerely Yours: George McGinnis
