Rosholt in Zulu’s half-guard.
Philly heavyweight Azunna “Zulu” Anyanwu spent the past week in Dallas, TX training with Team Takedown – specifically to help heavyweight Jared “Big Show” Rosholt, a 3x NCAA All-American, BIg 12 Champ, get ready for a fight.
It doesn’t look like Rosholt (whose brother Jake has fought several times in the UFC) has an MMA record, so it’s unclear if he’s going to go directly to the pros or have an ammy fight or two.
Well, as Zulu writes, he went through a week’s worth of rigorous training, including practice with UFC figfhter Rick “The Horror” Story’s coach, and jiu-jitsu wizard Marc Laimon.
Mark Palmer, of the College Wrestling Examiner, writes about Rosholt, “In an interview with MMAJunkie.com, Ted Ehrhardt, president of Team Takedown, described Rosholt as ‘around 265 (pounds) when he’s walking. (According to official NCAA records, Rosholt weighed in at 229.8 pounds for the 2010 NCAAs.) We just now put him on all the BSN supplements and trying to do some mass building. He’ll end up probably around 280, 285 pounds, and he’s real fast. He runs like a 4.7 [40-yeard-dash]. I don’t know, but I’ve heard he’s bench-pressing around 700 pounds. He’s big, he’s strong, and he’s fast.’”
As for Zulu (2-0 amateur, 1-0 pro), his next fight is at Locked in the Cage VII on Feb. 11 in Philadelphia against Corey Mullis (4-2 amateur, 0-2 pro).
