Jean-Claude Van Damme vs. Somluck Khamsing in kickboxing fight in Las Vegas?

I don’t know what to make of this. If you’re like me, you thought Van Damme was pretty frickin’ cool in the 80s and 90s. Then there were the direct-to-DVD movies, messy divorces, the guy who sued because he got hurt on the set of “Cyborg,” cocaine addiction and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Damn.
Van Damme fought in kickboxing for about four years in Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s, amassing a 20-2 record, But now, at close to age 50, he wants to return to the ring, and not just against anyone, but against Somluck Khamsing, an Olympic boxer and Muay Thai fighter?!!?
It makes you wonder if the whole thing is a work, that he’ll take a dive after the seats are filled, that his tearful speech about doing it for the “Little Hulksters” who looked up to him is just more bad acting. On the other hand, this may be the real deal, and Van Damme is doing it anyway, knowing he’ll be carried out on his shield, just to regain some of his credibility.
We’ll see.
