Ben “Killa B” Saunders had made a name for himself thus far in his career as a Muay Thai specialist, using his long limbs to smash opponents inside the cage. But at Bellator 53, he put those long limbs to use in another way — a truly masterful, dominant performance on the ground against BJJ black belt and Brazilian BJJ champion Luis Santos. By applying one submission after the next, all while peppering Santos’ face and body with short punches, Saunders was able to wear Santos down and force a tapout to keylock at 1:45 of round 3.
The win matches Saunders up with fellow welterweight tournament finalist Douglas Lima, with the winner receiving $100,000 and a chance to challenge welterweight champ Ben Askren.
