York County’s Duane “The Storm” Bastress, a pro middleweight fighter who won his Bellator debut by beating Daniel Gracie at Bellator 54 in Atlantic City, has been sidelined with a leg injury, and will not be able to fight Joey Kirwan at Bellator 59 on Nov. 26 in Atlantic City, said his trainer, Chad Strawbridge.
“It’s a leg injury,” Strawbridge said Monday. “He should be back fairly soon, then we’re going to work on his weaknesses, super-hard.”
More than likely, Bastress will be on the next Bellator card in Atlantic City, probably in March 2012, Strawbridge said.
Bastress, of Dover Township, who works as an assistant wrestling coach at York College, is 4-1 as a pro, after having gone undefeated as an amateur. Bastress made his debut at Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge in April 2009, the first legally-sanctioned event in the state.
Bastress is a two-time national wrestling champion, but also has worked hard to improve his striking game.
