John Flock, who goes by “Johnny Vegas” and whose fans wear T-shirts that say “Go Flock Yourself” is 2-0 as a pro. He trains with Team Vicious out of Williamsport, Pa. In his first pro fight, Flock, who went 6-6 as an amateur, took on Vinny Courts, who was 3-0 as an amateur, in the main event of Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge 13 on Sept. 17, 2011. It was the pro debut for both fighters. Flock ended the fight with a guillotine. In his second pro fight, Flock took on the 2-1 William “Buster” Crandall out of New York at CageFight 9 in November 2011. Flock bloodied Crandall with punches on the feet and the ground, before taking his back, and cinching a tight triangle. With a close eye on the action, Ref Keith Peterson called the fight, giving Flock the win by TKO/ref stoppage.
Tenyeh “Skinny Man” Dixon is an experienced pro with a 7-8 record. Hailing from Baltimore, Md., Dixon is co-founder of Team Raww Dogg, and was cornering other fighters the night Flock won against Courts. Dixon, who has fought professionally since 2005, has been a part of events in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Dixon is coming off of two straight losses, the latest to Jordan Rinaldi at Complete Devastation MMA 2 in November 2011, by second-round arm bar, and prior to that, a split decision loss to Eric Moon at The Road to Glory in August 2011.
Although Dixon may have more pro fights to his resume, this is a good example of matchmaking. Flock has won his two fights, while Dixon has lost his last two. Dixon will be looking to rebound with a win, while Flock will look to keep his streak alive. As far as skills, both seem to like to submit opponents, but have also lost their share of fights by submission. It may boil down to who can take the other fighter down first. Also, let’s not forget the striking, since both Flock and Dixon like to set up their ground games with well-placed punches and kicks. Not sure who will take this one, but you’re going to see a very strategic, fast-paced fight by two experienced fighters.
