No Holds Barred: Robert Drysdale on ADCC Superfight with Jacare

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling world champion Robert Drysdale
(http://robertdrysdale.net/).

The winner by submission of all his fights in the absolute division of
the 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Submission Fighting World
Championships, Robert Drysdale now has earned a place in the featured
Superfight in ADCC 2009 (http://adccbarcelona.com), September 25-27,
in Barcelona, Spain. His original opponent, however, Roger Gracie, the
2007 Superfight winner and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion many
times over, was forced to withdraw from this match because of an
injury.

It was just announced Friday by the ADCC Committee that the new
opponent for Robert Drysdale in the Superfight will be the exciting
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts star, Ronaldo "Jacare"
Souza. In his last appearance at ADCC, in 2005, Jacare won the 88 kg
division but lost in the absolute finals to Roger Gracie.

Cobrinha vs. Mendes at the World Pro BJJ Cup

| | Comments (0)

This took place at a recent Abu Dhabi tournament - hence the Arabic crawl under the picture. The guy in the white gi is Ruben "Cobrinha" Charles, with Rafael Mendes wearing the blue. The BJJ practitioner who sent this to me noted that, "It is very rare to see Cobrinha lose at his own weight in bjj. He is considered one of if not the best p4p bjj guy right now. This event was held in Abu Dhabi and was held similiar to their famous ADCC no gi events held ever two years."

The Abu Dhabi Combat Club is widely regarded as the premiere grapping championships in the world. Everyone from the Gracies, to Mark Kerr, to Jeff Monson to Ricardo Aron and Tito Ortiz have competed in ADCC. Here's the latest from ADCC's Web site: Fedor Emelianenko will test his sombo skills on the mat next year.

In the ever expanding "quest for the best" ADCC Championships is proud to announce that two of the World's top fighters have agreed to compete in the 2009 ADCC event. ADCC is proud to announce that Pride and Affliciton Champion Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered the World's best fighter and 2008 Dream Middleweight Champion Gregard Mousassi are set to compete in ADCC 2009. ADCC Europe President Marko Leistén confirmed the fighter's presence after a meeting with the two fighters manager Aby Echteld in Holland 8th November.

Fedor Emelianenko, after conquering the World of MMA, wants to show the World he is also the best Submission Grappler in the World. Fedor want to make history and expand on the pioneer spirit of what Mark Kerr did in the late 90's when he was the Champion of Pride and became the weight and Absolute Champion of ADCC and went on to defend his title in the Superfights for 2 editions.

Mousassi, the winner of the 2008 Dream Middleweight Grand Prix where he defeated former World ABJJ Absolute and ADCC middleweight Champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in the final, also wants to test his ground skills against the top names in Submission Grappling. This sets up some humongous possible match-ups such as a re-match with "Jacare" or facing current ADCC Middleweight Champion and rising U.F.C. star Demian Maia.
World lead organizer Guy Neivens was ecstatic with the addition: "At the top of my wish list I was one name: Fedor Emelianenko! And not only we got him but we also added another World star in Gregard Moussassi. It is a testament to the level and prestige of our conversation that the World's best continue to want to test themselves in our events." And he continued: "We couldn't be any happier. Now it is time for the rest of the World's best fighters to step up to the challenge!"
