COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Two fighters desperately in need of victories got them at Friday's Adrenaline MMA show.

Nebraska fighter Matt "The Bolt" Bentley may not be from the mighty Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but he is a de-facto resident, as far as I'm concerned, because he's sponsored by New Cumberland mma clothing company, Tattoo Fightwear. Matt is fighting on the upcoming Adrenaline IV event on Friday in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Here is a message from Matt that Larry Novak from Tattoo sent me:

Tuesday September 15, 2009

Well folks it's that time. This is the last e-mail I will send out before the fight. I want to thank everyone once again for everything that you've done for me in preparation for this Friday.

Brandon and Paris (American Stand Up): You guys were the first big sponsor I ever landed and I will ALWAYS rock your gear in the cage, it doesn't matter if I never leave the local arenas or make it the big shows out in Vegas or Cali. I will always be a part of American Stand Up. Thanks for believing in me!

Phil and the guys (Disorderly Conduct): While a newer sponsor you and your boys have made me feel very welcome. I am glad that I can represent you guys and an Omaha company on fight night.

Castaway Pointe: What started as a business deal turned into a great friendship with me and your daughter. You guys have helped out in a big way. Mari I still wanna get you into the gym with me. LOL!

Eric Carlson and crew (Insanity Fightwear): You guys have bent over backwards for me. I was one of the first fighters you guys sponsored and you are another company that has just made me feel like part of the family. Insanity is another company that will be a part of my sponsorship crew as long as I in the cage!

Mike and Sigrid Moylan (Shamrock Development): I have enjoyed working with you guys over the last year and hands down you are two of my favorite clients (not your general ass kissing job here LOL!). I have really enjoyed the energy you guys have brought to the gym and your workouts. Thanks for the sponsorship!

Larry Novak (Tattoo Fightwear): You have really been trying to push my name especially on the East Coast and that to me is an priceless service. I love what your company stands for and am proud to be a part of the team at Tattoo.

Joe Stickman (Stickman Graphics): You guys stepped up to help out on a last minute e-mail. You guys have helped me get the names of all these great companies out there. Thank you so much! I hope this is the first step towards a continuing partnership.

Smitty, Dom and the Gang (Big Brain Productions): I've known Smitty a long time since I got my first tattoo ten years ago actually from Chris. Thirteen or fourteen tats later I'm back getting inked by Dom (amazing artist) and kicking with the boys at the shop. You guys are down to earth, genuine and generally speaking bad ass! Thanks so much for all you've done.

Shriers: Linda, Sami and family. Linda I have really enjoyed working with you over the last year. You have been very supportive of me and my fighting career and I appreciate it. Sami I look at you like a little sister...You've been out to most of my fights over the last year and will keep coming I'm sure!

Thanks again guys, you've done your part and now it's time for me to do mine! See you at the fights!

Tim Sylvia knocked out by Ray Mercer is a boxing match-turned MMA fight at Adrenaline III.

Sylvia vs. Mercer now an MMA fight

| | Comments (0)

Earlier today, sherdog.com writer Loretta Hunt posted a story that the upcoming Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer boxing bout had been chnaged to an MMA fight.

Here's a quote from the story: "Originally scheduled as a six-round boxing bout, Adrenaline owner and promoter Monte Cox said he made the decision to re-categorize the match on Thursday.

'I got a call from the Pennsylvania commissioner saying that the boxing match is illegal because we weren't getting regulated by a U.S. commission,' said Cox on Thursday." (emphasis mine).

So I wondered, who is this "Pennsylvania commissioner" and why did Cox talk to him?

Turns out it is none other than PA. State Athletic Commission Executive Director Greg Sirb.

Sirb said Thursday that he's known Cox for some time, and that as past president of the Association of Boxing Commissions (and now a member of the ABC executive board).

Sirb said he told Cox that the Sylvia-Mercer bout could not happen as planned. "You cannot have a pro boxing event in a state without a state (boxing) commission ... That's a federal violation," said Sirb, referring to Alabama, where the fight, slated to headline Adrenaline III at the BJCC Arena in Birmingham, Ala.

Not only that, but it was to be a boxing match fought inside a cage, which Sirb disapproved of.

Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer: boxing in a cage

from mmajunkie.com:
The previously announced "Adrenaline III: Sylvia vs. Mercer" headline boxing match between former MMA champion Tim Sylvia and boxing champ Ray Mercer will be held in a mixed-martial-arts cage, Adrenaline MMA CEO Monte Cox confirmed in a Thursday press conference in Birmingham, Ala.

The same city hosts the June 13 Adrenaline MMA event, which features a headline six-round boxing match between Sylvia, a former longtime UFC champ, and Mercer, an Olympic gold medalist and WBO heavyweight boxing champion.

At the age of 40, Pat Miletich made a statement Thursday against Thomas Denny.

More than two years ago, Miletich was unsure if he'd ever fight again following a disappointing submission loss to Renzo Gracie. Now the MMA world is wondering if the Iowan is on the cusp of a comeback.

"They say the last thing to go when you're old is your power," said Miletich, a former UFC 170-pound champion.

Power has not been lost if Thursday's decisive knockout at Adrenaline II is of any measure, as the hometown fighter looked every bit the striker he was known for a decade ago.

A clean left-hook counter to the chin stunned Denny in an early exchange, and set the tone for a spectacular finish in front of a partisan crowd at the I Wireless Center in Moline, Ill.
